REMEMBER MY TIPS FROM YESTERDAY? HERE THEY ARE AGAIN. KEEP THEM IN THE BACK OF YOUR MIND WHEN CRITIQUING COVER LETTERS TODAY.
First focus on the hook. It's the most important part of the entire cover letter. Without it everything sags. Write out a few hooks and see what has the most punch.
Secondly, keep paragraph 2 as short as possible. I know you are pulling from your Dream Client Analysis and you want to empathise as much as possible, but less is more in this case. Chop the paragraph in half by taking out words like "very, really, etc." The more punchy this paragraph is the better.
Thirdly, do NOT use any of these words in paragraph 2: "me, my, I, our, we, us". Rather use words that make it all about them. Paragraph 2 is all about empathy.
Fourth, lower your expectations. You have this entire week to work on all your cover letters. Of course the first draft is going to be crap. So let it be crap. Write that crap out, save it, and go have a drink. You'll have a chance to refine everything so stop stressing. Just write.
Fifth, and I can't say this enough... Keep it punchy. Try to make each sentence as short as possible while being as powerful as possible.
For example this is NOT a punchy hook:
In a perfect world you want to make your advertising and marketing agency do really well and make a lot of money without having to think about a thing, lift a finger, and move a mountain with your staff and accounts within a short amount of time like maybe 3 or 4 months maximum because you know deadline are very important and stuff like that.
THIS is a punchy hook:
In a perfect work you want Sterling Cooper to double it's annual financials without killing your talented staff and steamrolling over accounts within the first quarter.
